Theme 1 - Measuring
The "Laboratory of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering" - LISA, is part of the Civil Engineering Department of the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
The main R+D focus of LISA is the use of Advanced Oxidation Processes for water/wastewater treatment, the abatement of emerging chemical contaminants, applying our specialty in microorganism elimination and health-related pathogens removal. The development of new solar and UV-based treatment processes is one of our primary focus points of research, disposing 4 fully equipped spaces for chemical analyses and microbiological tests.
More specifically, we investigate:
-Disinfection and decontamination of water & wastewater
i) development of novel, sustainable water treatment processes
ii) the fundamentals governing microorganism disinfection
ii) photochemistry & photobiology of natural waters
- Wastewater treatment and reuse: Wastewater Treatment by Membranes, Ozone, Electro-coagulation, UVC, Aerobic/Anaerobic processes
-Simulation and mathematical modelling of treatment processes
The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) is one of the oldest Polytechnic Universities, with its Schools originating back in 18th and 19th centuries. Our Faculty, the ETS de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos ranks Nº6 in Shanghai Universities Ranking.
Our Laboratory of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering accumulates over 30 years of experience in water&wastewater treatment and solid wastes, and ensures a superior know-how in constructive and engineering projects execution (ca. 30 per year), including water/wastewater distribution and collection networks, treatment plants.
Our main research axes developed are aligned with Environmental Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Chemistry/Chemical Engineering.
