We have expertise in fish reproductive biology and endocrinology and more recently in Ecotoxicology. We aim to evaluate the bioacumulation, toxicity and mechanisms of action of different pollutants (EDCs, nanomaterials, agrochemicals or cyantoxins) in vivo, using zebrafish as model species. Such evaluation can be developed in adults, in the early life stages or even in transgenerational studies. Also we are able to use multiple biomarks and several tecniques as Histopathology, Immunohistochemistry, Western Blot, ELISA, qPCR, Transcriptomics, Comet assay and Micronucleus test, Activity of oxidative stress enzymes.
My institution is located in the Northeast of Brazil, one of the poorest regions in Brazil, where only 10% of the sewage produced is treated. Consequently, the lack of environmental sanitation greatly affects the life of the population. Still, there are vast plantations of sugar cane and other crops, with the uncontrolled use of agrochemicals.
Our local funding agency (FAPEAL) in Brazil is offering funding for this call and we would be very grateful if we can submit a proposal after we join an international consortium. We are totally open to discussing research topics and other possibilities for collaboration.
The Federal University of Alagoas (https://ufal.br/) is an important institution for teaching, research and extension located in the state of Alagoas, in northeast Brazil. We have several research groups in the most diverse areas of knowledge, such as human and animal health, animal and plant biology, ecology, biodiversity and conservation and biotechnology, which carry out cutting edge research and are also involved in teaching.
