Theme 1 - Measuring
We will be assessing the environmental impact into the marine environment in Cyprus seafronts caused by human input. During the project, key locations around the Republic of Cyprus will be selected for seawater sample collection. For each sample collected the following tests will be performed: 1) Microbiological testing with ISO & RT-PCR methods for at least 7 potential pathogens, 2) Chemical testing (Physiochemical parameters & analysis of trace elements incl. heavy metals) and 3) Toxicity testing with Microtox bioassay (Modernwater).
We will be applying to the Aquaticpollutants platform as Consortium coordinators (under Theme 1) so we are looking for potential partners (2-3 collaborators) that can help us with the following:
1) Measure the concentration of pesticides, antibiotics, NSAIDs & other CECs in seawater.
2) Analysis of seawater samples for the presence of cryptosporidium parasite.
3) Detection of petroleum hydrocarbons (sea oil spills)
4) Antimicrobial resistance of pathogens in seawater due to the presence of CECs.
5) Other possible toxicity tests that can be performed in seawater.
