AST, ESBL strains, PCR, Sequencing, River and marine
Theme 1 - Measuring
I am Eric Mitema, Professor of Clinical Pharmacology with interest in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of enteric pathogenic bacteria in food of animal origin, environment including water or animals. I work at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and would want to partner with some European institutions in this project. Because Kenya is a low income country if the proposal is successful Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) will pay for our funding. A European Institution will be the coordinating partner while my institution will be part of the consortia. I have an idea on what project can be conducted in Kenya by collecting water samples along various points and even fish samples in rivers and lakes/ocean to isolate E,coli and determine the presence of ESBL strains and any possible burden to public health risk
