I currently lead the SpatioTemporal Environmental Epidemiology Research (STEER) Group in TU Dublin which comprises Masters, PhD and Postdoctoral Researchers. We have multiple funded projects in several areas including the epidemiology of waterborne infections, risk analysis and management of climate events (flooding, drought, etc), and antimicrobial resistance in the subsurface (groundwater and soil) environment. As such, my Aquatic Pollutants 2020 interests are primarily focused on the movement of pathogens and AMR genes and microbes around and across all elements of hydrological catchments/watersheds, the sources of these pathogens, genes and microbes, the adverse human health effects of waterborne pathogens and AMR, and the risk management and communication aspects of these. I/we use multiple research approaches including field sampling, statistical and mathematical modelling, scenario simulations, quantitative microbial risk assessment, and cross-sectional surveying. We also have extremely strong links with universites in Canada where I am adjunct professor with PhD students in groundwater AMR, socio-epidemiology, QMRA and microbial ecology
