We are developing solutions for the miniaturized, automated and on-line detection and analysis of cells and microbes from different human, industrial or environmental sample materials. This includes the integration of a variety of technologies such as flow cytometry, FACS, MACS, PCR and ELISA in microfluidic systems.
For potential projects and collaboration, we offer to contribute to the development of a screening/detection/isolation/quantification/analysis platform for aquatic microorganisms, which might fit in Theme 1, 2 or 3.
Fraunhofer Institute for Microengineering and Microsystems is engaged in research and development in the two fields of Chemistry and Energy Technology and Analysis Systems and Sensors. Within the latter, we are mainly dealing with analytical and diagnostic systems for personalized healthcare and patient monitoring (liquid biopsy, POC systems, glucose monitoring) as well as with environmental analysis, particularly in form of pathogen detection, water analysis and nanotoxicology. Our research activities focus on the miniaturization and automation of complex laboratory procedures and equipment to give access to a wide range of biological data on cell-, microorganism-, gene- or enzyme-containing specimens very fast and directly on-site. This particularly includes precision microfluidics (lab-on-a-chip) for handling, analysis and detection of cells or for fully automated and ultrafast ELISA and PCR technologies.
