Antimicrobial resistance genes, Fish pathogens, aquatic pathogens, bacteria, resistance
Theme 1 - Measuring
We are working on aquatic pathogens that were isolated from a number of outbreaks of fish species. Especially, Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Lactococcus, Yersinia, Vibrio, and Flavobacter species, are known as indicator organisms for antimicrobial resistance, are very important human pathogens and nosocomial infections. We detected a great number of antimicrobial resistance genes from these agents and also aquaculture pond water. We published articles about antimicrobial-resistant bacteria that have transmissible plasmid or resistance gene cassette. Thus, in our culture collections, we have about a thousand bacteria strain represent six different regions of Turkey isolated from freshwater and marine water fish species and some of them from water.
We would like to analyze these bacteria for resistance genes including;
1. Transfer potency of these genes
2. Transfer route of them, plasmid, etc.
3. Genetic relationship of resistance genes between human and aquatic organism
4. Genetic relationship of aquatic pathogens isolated before between humans
We are trying to construct a consortium for applying the project. If you are related, we are very happy to see your offer.
We are working on Bursa Uludag University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Department of Aquatic Animal Disease. We have been worked on aquatic animal disease for ten years and isolated about a thousand bacteria from fish and water. Our culture collection has a big strain including antimicrobial-resistant bacteria also. We also can do PCR, sequence, metagenome and whole-genome analysis and bioinformatics analysis in our labs.
